You don’t know me, so let me introduce myself… 🙂
My name is Lise (pronounce “Liz”). I am an author of historical fictions, all set during the 19th century. As I am both French and Canadian, I write in french and I have been published mostly in France and Quebec.
Here is an overview of my work:
La cantatrice (vol. 1 and 2)
La cantatrice (meaning “the opera singer”) tells the real story of Emma Albani, a french-canadian opera singer who was one of the greatest stars in the 1890s. A Céline Dion from the 19th century, really ! She built a career at the Covent Garden in London, married the son of the manager, became the favourite singer of the Queen Victoria, sang in the most prestigious places all over the world… She had such a fantastic life!
Les filles de joie (vol. 1, 2 and 3)
Les filles de joie (literally meaning “the girls of joy” in french, aka “the harlots”) is a fiction describing the troubles of Victoire, a young woman rejected by her family after getting pregnant out of wedlock. To make some money and survive, she enters a brothel – just for a couple of months, she thinks. But prostitution, at that time, was a system from which women could not escape easily…
La renaissance de Pemberley
A long time ago (I mean… a VERY long time ago… in 2008!), I wrote a small fanfiction after the Pride and Prejudice movie by Joe Wright, with Keira Knithley and Matthew Macfadyen. I didn’t finished it but I was certain I would come back to it later.
Indeed, not less than 10 years later, I brought back my story and rewrote it entirely to produce a full novel. I narrate what’s happening straight after the end of the book: how Elizabeth and Darcy get married and how Elizabeth settles down at Pemberley House and in her new neighborhood.
Blogging about life during the 19th century
As you can see, I am fascinated by the 19th century and all my fictions take place during that era.
I do a lot of research when I write, for I like my stories to be as historically accurate as possible. That’s why I decided to share that knowledge with my readers.
My blog is in french and I publish one article per week to describe some facet of this period: food, customs, weird objects or habits, leisures, fashion, health, money, servants, social classes and ranks… I like to explain what we see in popular books, movies of TV shows, and sometimes I also bring a feminist point of view by describing how women were living at that time and how the situation has evolved (or not…) in our days.
If you are curious and read a little bit of french, you can have a look by clicking on the flag, at the top of this page, or by clicking here 🙂
Note that I have no intention to translate my articles in english as it would be a tremendous job.
Besides, a lot of excellent english blogs already exist on the matter!
The good news is…
My Pride and Prejudice sequel have been translated in english and will soon be available!
Yeah, I know, I know… It will be just another Jane Austen continuation among so many others… But, still, I hope you will enjoy my version!
Be patient… The book should get released in June, 2020! 🙂
